Preliminary and final project

2010 – 2011

This project is an answer to an specific request from the boarding school administration and its director. The request was to "tidy up" and organize the space and distribution of functions inside the complex building (That fills an entire eighteen century Juvarra block), whose chambers have been chaotically occupied as a result of the urgency  that the conditions of the time demanded.

The complexity of the building was taken as a resource, so that the careful examination of the block would bring to the light its own space hierarchy differentiation between the living and the service areas.

This strategy brought together the architectural nature of the building with its formal vocation and the functional requirements of the program for the boarding school, as if there was an existing relationship between the rules of the building and the rules of the school that was only waiting to be exposed. So the figurative reorganization became a rearrangement of functions, mobility and escape routes in accordance with the new Fire Safety Plan.
